Piazza Orsillo – 01.03.08

Typical Joisey Italian pizza joint. Standard fare of thin crust style pizzas, strombolis, calzones, dinners, subs, etc. What makes it stand out you ask? Their eggplant parmesan sandwich. Not only is it tasty, it is $9 and change for a whole (a real whole). Formidable task to finish solo, just enough when you half it with a friend, buddy, or a date. It’s also a little messy so it should be a good opportunity to wipe the mouth of said date to score some points. Wipe the mouth of your buddy and that’s just a little weird. Back to the sandwich, the fried eggplant is not too crispy; a little soggy actually. However, it is nice and oily and I surmise they fry the ‘plant in some half decent quality olive oil. Add to that the tangy red sauce and generous topping of mozzarella cheese in the proper ratios and you have a perfect (and veggie friendly) sandwich to satisfy your munchies. I’ve tried their pizzas and they are decent. The chicken cutlet I personally think is below average. However, my mouth waters every time I drive by for the eggplant parm. Yum.

'plant parmesan

Good:
Tasty and cheap, less than $10 for a big sandwich!

Bad:
Pizza and chicken cutlet at or below average

Ugly:
Eat it quick because like a proper eggplant, meatball, chicken parm should do, it gets soggy fast! Like many things in life, ugly but necessary.

  1. Very disappointed! Ordered two meals for delivery on July 12, 2008- paid over $40 waited 2 hours for the first delivery attempt- order missing bread, salads and soda. Delivery person said we didn’t pay for the items not received- not true! Called Orsillo, they wanted to “give a credit by giving us these items the next time we made an order” as opposed to crediting our credit card for items not received- we asked them to deliver what we ordered- another HOUR later we received the rest of the order which they still got wrong- totally ruined what was going to be a fun evening- don’t chance an evening or waste your money on Orsillo. There are so many places to eat or have food delivered in this area where the merchant really cares- try another place.

  2. i have to fend for this joint… though their dishes are average, it’s really ‘the works’ pizza that keeps me coming. i can’t comment on their delivery service, but whenever we dine-in, i love the feeling of community — the workers know the regulars, and even though we’ve not frequented the place recently, they always make us feel like regulars

  3. dusal’s in franklin park on rt. 27 has also become a damrau favorite… not only is it 3 min from our place, but they offer “thin sicilian’ style pizza, i.e. square crust. if you like garlic & basil, you’ll like their ‘brooklyn style’ pizza

on our most recent date night, dave took me to delorenzo’s in robbinsville — the newer of two locations (original is in trenton). their pizzas are of the thin-crust, made-to-order variety. check it out if you’re willing to wait 30min+ for a table… Not ideal for a pregnant lady, but well worth the wait. Oh yeah – pizza is the only thing on their menu, besides antipasta and salad.
